Website vs. Web Page – What’s the difference?

Very simply, a Website is a collection of Web Pages that are under one domain name (yourbusinessname.com for example) and a Web Page is a single independent page of a website.

If you have a Website or are interested in creating a Website then you are talking about a collection of Web Pages within one domain (yourbusinessname.com). For example if your website is yourbusinessname.com then your website might have several web pages incorporated within it like Home, About Us, Contact Us, Products, Services and others. All of these pages together make up your Website.

A single Web Page is an independent page within a Website. A Web Page has a specific URL (uniform resource locator is the global address of a specific page on the World Wide Web) which can be copied/sent and shared with others for review whereas websites must be navigated by the visitor to view content.

Search Engines and Web Pages

One very important point with regard to search engines: search engines index Web Pages not Websites. What this really means is that search engines use programs that scan Web Pages to create a searchable library of Web Pages based on the words contained within those pages. Web Pages that lack sufficient content or importance are sometimes not indexed as search engines attempt to return search results based on their relevancy to the search performed.

Creating a keyword rich descriptive Web Page is a very simple and powerful way to increase your online visibility and for people to share information about your business.
